The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has threatened a statewide strike if the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) does not follow a direction issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
According to the Association, on Monday, June 9, the NLC directed GTEC to reinstate members whose allowances were withdrawn or reduced last month, enable conversation on differences within the Single Spine Salary Structure, and overturn a direction on office-holding.
However, in a statement issued, the Association stated that no tangible efforts have been done to execute these directions, and that the government has until the end of the month to respond or face another strike.
Meanwhile, the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to GTEC, demanding that it reverse its directive requiring traditional public universities to swear in representatives of the Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU-TUC) to their Governing Councils.
