Mahmud, a Fulani herder, allegedly murdered his four-month-old pregnant wife, Barikisu, in Frimpongkrom, Dormaa West District, Bono Region. The unfortunate incidence took place on Monday, June 16, 2025.
According to neighbours, Barikisu had long been the victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her spouse. In the days leading up to the incident, she informed their landlord and his wife of her plan to return to her village in Northern Ghana due to the ongoing maltreatment.
However, Mahmud reportedly persuaded her to stay by promising to amend his behavior—a promise that proved to be short-lived.
On the evening of the incident, when the couple was eating supper, Mahmud allegedly rose unexpectedly and murdered his pregnant wife in cold blood without provocation.
Mahmud fled the scene of the crime and is thought to have crossed the border into Ivory Coast.
Medical personnel at a neighboring institution later performed an emergency procedure in an attempt to rescue the unborn child, but both mother and infant were declared dead. Barikisu has been buried.
Meanwhile, security authorities in Ghana and Ivory Coast have initiated a manhunt for the suspect.
