Akpafu Todzi Evangelical Presbyterian Junior High School students in the Guan District of the Oti Region study under a post-colonial mud construction.
The structure, which is thought to be around six decades old, has multiple cracks in various places, with some of the timber frame of the roofing and ceiling falling off. Authorities have called for swift action to prevent a tragedy.
Akpafu Todzi was one of the pioneering localities to benefit from Bremen Mission-established schools. This structure, built using ancient architectural technology, served as the community basic school's foundation classroom block.
The headmaster, Joseph Osafo, explained that the facility had only been renovated once since its completion. He claimed it is becoming a danger zone, endangering the lives of the students who occupy there.
He stated that due to cracks in various areas of the building, with the corners suffering significant damage, the school is closed.
when it rains to avoid any tragic accidents. "When you step inside, you will notice that the ceiling has been broken, and we are supporting them with beams. "The walls are not in good shape right now," he remarked.
Mr. Osafo advocated for a new classroom block to offer a safe atmosphere for students while also enhancing academic activity.
The institution is also limited in its ability to instruct students in information and communication technologies due to a lack of necessary resources.
Mr. Osafo expressed concern that only one of the school's about ten computers is operational, and that it is being utilized by the instructor.
"The world is transitioning from analog to digital now. So you realize that we use digital processes for practically everything we do. So we need upgraded computers; the ones there are outdated, and just one is working right now," he explained.
