The High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has condemned Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the brutal murder of Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps member.
On Thursday, Justice Simon Aboki convicted Ajayi of culpable homicide for murdering and disintegrating the victim. Justice Aboki stated that the prosecuting counsel showed beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant killed the victim at his home.
The judgment held that the defendant's allegation that he went unconscious after having a wonderful time with his girlfriend and was unconscious when he penned his confessional statement is not credible.
Following several months of trial, he found Ajayi guilty of the offense. Justice Aboki remarked that Ajayi was convicted under Section 221 of Northern Nigeria's Penal Code, which mandates the death punishment for such offenses.
"The law is clear on this, and the penalty is death. As a result, Justice Aboki sentenced the accused to death by hanging.
