Traders affected by the tragic fire at Adum PZ in Kumasi have protested against the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) over plans to relocate them from the Blue Light Arena market area.
Following the fire, officials ordered traders to vacate the premises to make way for the building of a new truck route and a refurbished market space.
However, many impacted traders, particularly young business owners, have opposed the plan, preferring to reconstruct the market themselves.
Traders protested yesterday, expressing displeasure with the lack of consultation and claiming that the relocation would disrupt their businesses.
They urged the authorities to reconsider their decision and allow them to reopen their stores without hindrance.
Meanwhile, KMA and NADMO claim that the proposed reconstruction will improve accessibility, safety, and overall market conditions, hence preventing future calamities.l
