President John Dramani Mahama has called on the people of Bawku and the surrounding villages to end the long-running conflict that has plagued the region for many years.
The President underlined that the younger generation has suffered greatly as a result of the conflict and that they should have a future free from bloodshed and devastation.
President Mahama emphasized that the moment for peace in Bawku and its surroundings is now during his remarks at the 68th Independence Day parade held at the Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
He emphasized the importance of instilling pleasant memories in schools, marketplaces, and communities, creating an atmosphere in which young people can thrive rather than growing up in conflict and terror.
"The residents of Bawku and other afflicted places deserve long-term peace. Our children need to inherit a tranquil land that nurtures their minds rather than reliving their horrors.
"The residents of Bawku and other afflicted places deserve long-term peace. Our children need to inherit a tranquil land that nurtures their minds rather than reliving their horrors.
“They deserve to inherit a land where our markets flourish with trade, not tension and conflict. They deserve to inherit schools that echo with learning, not sorrow.
“Let us not be swayed by division, distrust, and the burdens of the past. Let us give renewal of friendship a chance; let us give peace a chance. This is not an invitation to simply forget the past—far from it. It is an invitation to rise above it,” he stated.
