Reggae and dancehall artist Stonebwoy has raised concern over what he sees as a prevalent negative outlook among Ghanaians.
His assessment was supported by Ghanaians' reactions to an interaction with Nigerian influencer Peller, whom he vowed to transfer to the UK. According to Stonebwoy, it is depressing that this mentality exists among Ghanaians, and he believes it must be addressed.
“It’s heartbreaking and [this negativity from Ghanaians] needs to be addressed because in as much as we can’t wash our dirty linens outside, it’s heartbreaking to realize that in 2025, there’s this level of mentality that is still surrounding us as Ghanaian people.” He said.
He also mentioned an incident at a Grammy event when he approached Taylor Swift while she was alone, which prompted unfavorable reactions from Ghanaians. Stonebwoy calls these reactions uncalled for.
“You go to the Grammys, you’re connecting with Taylor Swift on the whole carpet, ain’t nobody talking to her, I say hi, we vibe and there was a negative reception by some of the Ghanaian populace.
Interestingly, it becomes the popular narrative, which then destroys the whole quality of what we can churn out of such moments.” He claimed.
Stonebwoy believes that the persistent negativity may discourage other artists from seeking opportunities and relationships that are critical for furthering their creativity and career. He expects that a shift in thinking will create a more welcoming atmosphere for Ghanaian artists.
