President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to drastically reduce the number of presidential staff in his administration.
On Thursday, February 27th, he delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term in Parliament, emphasizing the importance of a lean and efficient administration to ensure the careful use of public resources.
According to President Mahama, prior administrations had experienced an increase in the number of presidential personnel, resulting in wasteful expenditure.
"We cannot keep running a government in which the costs of administration surpassthe benefits to the people. My administration will take decisive action to limit the number of presidential staff members in order to increase efficiency and accountability," he declared.
He went on to explain that the reduction would not jeopardize governance effectiveness, but would instead increase productivity.
"We need a smaller, more skilled workforce to drive our development objectives. reduce bureaucracy and focus on delivering results that improve the lives of Ghanaians," President Mahama stated.
