Madam Faustina Djagbele Abbey, a prominent onion seller at 'KwasiaDwaso' near Makola Market, is suing telecommunications provider Telecel Ghana for allegedly using her image without her permission.
The plaintiff (Mad. Faustina Djagbele Abbey) stated that her photograph was used as the face for projecting, advertising, and marketing a product known as the "Telecel Red Save," a digital savings account with the Telecel Cash Platform that allows users to save money and earn interest, without her permission.
According to her, this came to her attention in February 2025, when some of her clients began congratulating her on her appearances in traditional media, billboards, and social media.
She claims that about the same time, several of her neighbours, including church members, began greeting her with laughter.
She also added that her coworkers, market women, and others around her began demanding various quantities of money from her, implying that she is now a wealthy woman.
Mad. Faustina Djagbele Abbey is seeking a declaratory order from the High Court directing Telecel Ghana to pay GHC 2,000,000.00 in compensation for breaches of her "privacy" and "personal liberties," as well as the removal of "Telecel Red Save" billboards, social media, and traditional media advertisements.
